Second International Kratosija Day celebrated – 600th anniversary of Montenegro’s oldest grape variety

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Montenegro has, for the second consecutive year, formally celebrated International Kratosija Day – a holiday dedicated to the country’s oldest indigenous grapevine variety.

The celebration was held on Friday at Villa Gorica, under the patronage of the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, and organized by the European Order of Wine Knights – Legatura Montenegro.

This year’s event carried special historical significance, marking the 600th anniversary of the 261st chapter of the Medieval Statute of the city of Budva from 1426, in which the first written mention of Kratosija was recorded.

The ceremony gathered together representatives of the diplomatic corps, ministers and public officials, members of the academic and business communities, members of the European Order of Wine Knights, and producers of Kratosija wines.

The event gained a strong international dimension with more than 20 international wine journalists and experts present, representing some of the world’s most prestigious wine publications.

A three-day programme was organized for them in Montenegro, with the aim of promoting the country as an authentic wine destination.

The ceremony concluded with a tasting of premium Kratosija wines from seven Montenegrin wineries: Zenta – Vucinic, Brajovic, Rackovic, Kula Popovic, Plantaze, Krgovic, and Kekovic Estate.
