Podgorica, (MINA) – The Bosniak Council (BV) in Montenegro urged the Special State Prosecutor’s Office to reopen the deportation cases, regarding the period when, as they said, a hunt had been carried out for people who sought refuge in Montenegro.
Montenegrin police illegally arrested in May 1992 at least 66 civilians, mostly Muslims, aged 18 to 66, and handed them over to the armed forces of Bosnian Serb. Only 12 deportees survived the torture in the concentration camps.
The BV recalls that even 34 years after the deportation, the crime has not received a fair judicial epilogue.
“This war crime bears the mark of shame, injustice and indifference of the state of Montenegro, on whose territory it took place, late in May 1992. We once again call on the Special State Prosecutor’s Office to reopen the case of this war crime, when a hunt had been conducted for people who sought refuge in Montenegro”, the press release said.
They added that it was high time for the national and local authorities to erect a memorial at the grounds of the Herceg Novi Security Department, whose police officers and their superiors had carried out this crime.
