Scepanovic: SPO and SDT operation confirms decisive approach to fight against organized crime

Podgorica, (MINA) - The operation carried out by the Special Police Department (SPO) and the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT), in which criminal proceedings were initiated against eight suspects for serious murders, confirms a decisive and indiscriminate approach in the fight against organized crime, said Chief of Police Administration Lazar Scepanovic.

He said that SPO officers, in direct coordination with the SDT and with the support of the Special Police Unit, carried out a months-long, complex and demanding operation aimed at uncovering the most serious crimes.

Those criminal acts, according to Scepanovic, were committed by high-ranking members of organized criminal groups that operate both at the national and international level.

“I welcome and comment the coordinated action of SPO and SDT, which confirms a determined, professional and indiscriminate approach in the fight against organized crime”, Scepanovic said.

He said that, based on cumulatively collected evidence and facts, exceptional results were achieved, with six murders from the period from 2017 to 2019 resolved.

“Two of which were committed in Spain to the detriment of S.V. and D.P, while four were committed in Montenegro, including the murders of S.S and the Serbian national I.K from Leskovac, as well as two cases from Bar in 2019 when Z.B. and M.S were reported missing”, the press release reads.

He said that, of the total number of suspects, three were arrested in Montenegro, two are in custody in Croatia and Ukraine, one is serving a sentence in the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, while intensive measures are being carried out to locate and arrest two suspects.

Scepanovic said that the organized criminal group, linked to the execution of those criminal acts, was formed by several individuals, some of whom were identified as leaders and organizers, and were killed in clashes between criminal clans in the previous period.
