Sattler: Final phase of EU path requires unity of government, opposition and entire society

 

Podgorica, (MINA) - The final phase of the European integration process requires national unity on key issues between the government, the opposition and entire society, European Union (EU) Ambassador to Montenegro Johann Sattler stated.

 

The EU Delegation hosted a reception on Thursday evening to mark Europe Day at the sports airport Spiro Mugosa in Podgorica.

 

According to the press release from the Europe House, the reception was attended by top state officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps, state and local institutions, the media, the civil sector and the academic community.

 

Speaking about Montenegro’s European path, Sattler assessed that the country has made significant progress by closing 14 negotiation chapters and emphasized that the accession process is now in a key phase.

 

He particularly emphasized that the completion of European integration process requires a broad social and political consensus.

 

The EU Ambassador called on the government to intensify efforts to build compromise and cooperation with the opposition, but also on the opposition to continue actively supporting the European integration process.

 

He also emphasized the key role of citizens, civil society and the media in Montenegro’s European integration process.
