Saranovic: State’s strong response to organized crime

Podgorica, (MINA) - In operations carried out by the Montenegrin police, prosecutor’s office and international partner services in the past few days, several persons suspected of being associated with criminal organization and planning liquidations were arrested, said the Minister of the Interior, Danilo Saranovic, adding that the country continues its decisive fight against organized crime.
He stated that the activities were carried out in Montenegro, Italy and Russia, with the support of international partners, and were aimed at preventing serious crimes, locating, arresting and prosecuting members of organized criminal groups operating at the national and international level.
According to Saranovic, the police uncovered a criminal group that, using sophisticated equipment and applications, tracked police officers and official vehicles in real time, providing logistical support to members of organized criminal groups and obstructing police activities.
“Nemanja Zurovac (29) and Mehmed Mekic (21) were arrested, while an intensive search is being carried out for Vasilije Lakic (22)”, Saranovic said, adding that digital equipment, vehicles and other items were seized and would be the subject to further expert examinations.
He pointed out that an active cell of a high-risk organized criminal group operating in Podgorica and planning murders was also dismantled.
“Milos Markovic (36), Arijan Reckovic (23) and Tarik Muminovic (22) were arrested for the crimes of aggravated murder, forming a criminal organization and illegal possession and carrying of weapons”, Saranovic said in a press release.
He added that Haris Monic, a citizen of Montenegro and the Netherlands, was arrested in Rozaje on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of creating a criminal organization and several criminal offenses of unauthorized production, possession and distribution of narcotic drugs at the international level.
Saranovic recalled that, in the international operation of the FAST teams from several European countries, Mili Bajramovic (33), a high-ranking member of an organized criminal group who wanted by Montenegro, was arrested in Rimini, suspected of the murder of Scepan Roganovic in Herceg Novi in 2020, while the Austrian authorities are also seeking for him for the murder of Vladimir Roganovic and the attempted murder of S.V. in Vienna in 2018.
He said that, in a joint operation by Interpol Podgorica and Moscow, Christian Dreshaj, a member of an organized criminal group operating in Montenegro, Australia and South America, was arrested in Russia.
Saranovic said that he is proud of the results achieved in the fight against organized crime by the security sector in cooperation with the Special State Prosecutor’s Office and other prosecutor’s offices.
