Saranovic: Record results in asset confiscation and financial investigations

Podgorica, (MINA) - Since the beginning of the work of the 44th Government, record results have been achieved in financial investigations and confiscation of assets acquired through criminal activity, Interior Minister Danilo Saranovic announced, stating that, in addition to real estate, EUR 69 million, 148 vehicles and vessels were confiscated.

Speaking at a special parliamentary session, responding to a question from head of the Democrats parliamentary group Boris Bogdanovic, he stated that the results are measured in “hundreds of percent more confiscated assets compared to earlier periods”.

Saranovic said that in 2024 and 2025 residential and commercial properties, yards, garages, construction plots, meadows, parking spaces, pastures, auxiliary buildings, roads and forests were confiscated.

“Funds in the amount of EUR 69 million were confiscated”, said Saranovic, adding that last year around 326 percent more funds were confiscated than in 2024.

According to him, over the past two years, 148 different types of vehicles and vessels, about 50 expensive wristwatches and over 170 pieces of antiques were temporarily seized.

When it comes to financial investigations, Saranović said that in two years, financial investigations were initiated against 314 individuals and 25 legal entities.

European Alliance MP Nikola Zirojevic asked about the case of fugitive Milos Medenica, recalling the minister’s earlier statement that he knew who provided logistical support for his escape.

He asked if the suspectes were questioned the day after Medenica’s escape, and why they were not arrested then, but two and a half months later.

Saranovic said that two months ago, the police had informed the public that the police had operational knowledge of the individuals who helped Medenica escape, and that evidence was obtained following investigation.

“The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office formed the case. In the meantime, police and prosecution carried out actions which resulted in the arrest of those individuals yesterday”, Saranovic said.

He rejected criticism that the institutional response was late or politically motivated.

Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) MP Oskar Huter asked about the accusations made by Nebojsa Medojevic against Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novovic, alleging that he shared confidential information with Miodrag Daka Davidovic.

Saranovic said that the Ministry and the Police have no information that can confirm these claims, adding that the DPS leadership should be asked about Davidovic.
