Rule of law key to national security

 

Podgorica, (MINA) - The rule of law is not only the foundation of democratic societies, but is also crucial for national security and economic stability, it was heard at the regional forum of special prosecutors held in Podgorica.

According to the press release from the British Embassy in Podgorica, chief special prosecutors and high-level representatives of the Western Balkans countries gathered at the forum dedicated to regional cooperation in the field of the rule of law.

“With the support of the United Kingdom and France, and hosted by Montenegro, the forum brought together leading representatives of prosecutor’s offices to discuss strengthening integrity, improving capacities for digital investigations and enhancing cross-border cooperation in the fight against serious and organized crime and high-level corruption”, the press release said.

British Ambassador Dawn McKen pointed to the long-standing partnership of the United Kingdom and Montenegro, as well as the region, in supporting the prosecutorial independence and strengthening institutional resilience.

According to the press release, she welcomed the leadership shown by Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novovic by gathering regional colleagues and encouraging practical cooperation.

French Ambassador Anne-Marie Maskay also praised Novovic and his team for their commitment to bringing together chief prosecutors from neighboring countries.

“She emphasized France’s commitment, both in Montenegro and the region, to strengthening the rule of law and the fight against organized crime and corruption, through bilateral cooperation, but also regional initiatives such as the Anti-Corruption Fund and the Judicial Cooperation Initiative in the fight against organized crime in the Balkans”, the press release said.
