Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Montenegro’s Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Sahmanovic and his counterparts from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the development of interconnected energy systems is the foundation for a more secure, competitive, and sustainable energy market in the region.
Sahmanovic met with Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry of Bosnia and Herzegovina Vedran Lakic, and Minister of Energy and Mining Petar Djokic.
“At the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing regional cooperation in the energy sector, with particular emphasis on connecting countries through modern gas infrastructure, as one of the key prerequisites for long-term energy stability and diversification of supply sources,” the Ministry said in a press release.
They also discussed the process of energy transition and the challenges it poses for Western Balkan countries.
In this context, the need for more intensive exchange of experiences, alignment of policies, and joint definition of priorities was emphasized, particularly regarding the development of renewable energy sources, grid modernization, and strengthening energy efficiency.
The ministers concluded that countries in the region share a common interest in acting in a coordinated and partnership-based manner toward the European Union and international financial institutions, in order to secure stronger support for the implementation of major energy projects and to accelerate reform processes.
Sahmanovic said that Montenegro remains committed to regional cooperation and dialogue as the most effective path toward a more secure and sustainable energy future.
It was concluded that that the meeting would provide additional momentum for intensifying cooperation in the coming period, through concrete projects and regular communication between relevant institutions.
