Podgorica, (MINA) – The Coastal Montenegro Regional Waterworks system is stable and ready for the upcoming tourist season, said company director Krsto Radovic, adding that this year will be investment-oriented.
In an interview with the MINA News Agency, Radovic said that the main challenges for water supply in the Montenegrin coastal region relate to environmental crime, but also losses in local water networks, managed by local water companies.
According to Radovic, the last year was very challenging in terms of hydrology, but the Regional Waterworks delivered the highest quantities of water in its history.
Radovic added that thus the Waterworks had the best financial results since its establishment.
He said that this year they expect better hydrological situation, due to improved snow coverage during the winter.
When asked about the key challenges of the Regional Waterworks, Radovic responded that it is the very water supply source, which has been affected by environmental crime, gravel theft and devastation of the river Moraca riverbed.
When asked if the insufficient capacities of the existing Podgorica wastewater treatment system could affect the Bolje sestre water supply source, Radovic stressed that all wastewater currently flows directly into the Moraca. “I don’t believe it could be any worse than it is now.”
