Public finances driving Montenegro’s European transformation

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a meeting between Minister of Finance Novica Vukovic and UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and Central Asia, Ivana Zivkovic, that public finances are becoming a key instrument of stability, development, and Montenegro’s accelerated path toward the European Union.

During discussions on further strengthening cooperation and implementing reforms with tangible impacts on citizens’ daily lives, Vukovic said Montenegro has the capacity, expertise, and political will to manage public finances in line with the highest European standards.

He added that UNDP is a strategic partner in implementing development policies that build modern, transparent, and accountable public finances.

Zivkovic said UNDP has been a partner of the Government of Montenegro for decades in advancing sustainable development.

“Through our long-standing partnership with the Ministry of Finance, we support the strengthening of public financial management and strategic planning, in line with EU reforms and the 2030 Agenda. By improving regulatory impact analysis (RIA) and applying appropriate macroeconomic modelling for sustainable development financing, we contribute to better planning and more efficient management of public resources,” Zivkovic said.

The meeting, attended by UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro Ekaterina Paniklova, concluded with a message that cooperation with UNDP will continue through the implementation of concrete projects aimed at further strengthening fiscal stability, institutional resilience, and accelerating Montenegro’s EU path.
