Police will not approve transporters’ blockades next week

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Police Administration will not approve border blockades announced by the Transporters’ Association of Montenegro for next week, stating that previous approvals already allowed them to draw the public attention to their problems.

The police stated that in response to a the new application submitted by the Association of Transporters for public gatherings from April 20 to 24, they will, in accordance with legal authority, issue a decision not to approve the public gatherings.

“Given the nature, timing and manner of organizing the blockades, which would affect the movement of goods and services, as well as the supply of businesses and citizens for a long period of time, the police assess that the continuation of such blockades would seriously threaten the rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as public health across Montenegro, posing a direct risk to the economic stability of the country”, the press release said.

The Police Administration also said that, after the approved gathering ended at 10 a.m. on Friday, theprotest participants illegally continued the protest and blocked roads at several locations.
