Podgorica, (MINA) - Montenegro’s EU accession program until 2027 includes nearly 600 documents that must be adopted by either the Parliament or the Government, said Secretary General of the Europe Now Movement Boris Pejovic.
He explained that those acts include strategies, laws, decisions, action plans, decrees, regulations and that due to tight deadlines and the ambitious plan, speed is also very important, but not at the expense of quality.
According to Pejovic, the quality of European legislation is also guaranteed by the European Commission verification, before the laws are put to a vote in the Parliament.
Pejovic said that most of the acts, 497 in total, are planned to be adopted this year, in line with the goal of closing all negotiation chapters by the end of the year.
He said that the Parliament is to adopt 48 laws marked with the so-called “blue flag” which are necessary to fulfill the final benchmarks for closing the remaining chapters.
In addition, there are around 70 laws are to further align national legislation with the EU acquis and which are no less important than the obligations related to closing benchmarks.
“There is a total of 120 laws from the EU agenda. That is more than the average number of laws Parliament adopted annually from 2015 to 2024”, said Pejovic.
He added that these are only the laws related to the EU agenda, and that the number could increase slightly during the year at the request of the European Commission.
“If we add other acts that are being adopted, such as certain strategic documents and regular obligations of the Parliament, we can safely say that in order to close all chapters, it is necessary to adopt several hundred documents harmonized with the EU this year”, concluded Pejovic.
