Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Parliament has again adopted the Law on the Ratification of the Cooperation Agreement in the field of energy between the governments of Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A total of 46 MPs voted in favour of the law, 21 voted against, and there were no abstentions.
MP Boris Mugosa of the Social Democrats (SD) said during the parliament session that he would vote against laws that violate the fundamental principles of the European Union (EU).
“The Agreement with the Emirates violates the fundamental principles of Chapter 5. They are related to freedom of competition, equal treatment of market players, the principle of non-discrimination, and the principle of transparency,” said Mugosa.
The law was first adopted by Parliament at the session of the first extraordinary sitting on 27 February, while the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, returned it to Parliament for reconsideration at the beginning of March.
Milatovic said that his decision was not directed against development, investment, or international cooperation, but rather aimed at protecting the Constitution, the rule of law, economic sovereignty, and the long-term national interests of Montenegro.
