Only a matter of time before the Constitutional Court strikes down the UAE agreement

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The voting of Constitutional Court judges on the agreement between the governments of Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates on cooperation in tourism and real estate development has largely confirmed its shortcomings, which Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic had previously pointed out.

According to a press release from the President’s Office, it was precisely due to numerous constitutional and legal doubts that the agreement was returned to parliament for reconsideration.

Those doubts were later confirmed by prominent professors and experts during a public debate organized by the Constitutional Court on the matter.

“If the Constitutional Court had been in full composition, Montenegro would not have ended up in this situation, and the real reason for the failure to complete the court became clear on Monday in this very case. Unfortunately, as many times before, the authorities have placed personal and party-political interests above the public interest,” the press release said.

The President’s Office added that even with the reduced composition of six judges, it is clear that three judges of the current Constitutional Court believe that the agreement is not in line with the Constitution.
