Podgorica, (MINA) - On the occasion of Montenegro’s Independence Day, revisionist historical narratives are once again being promoted from Belgrade, said Democratic Party of Socialists MP Andrija Nikolic, adding that he is particularly concerned by the silence of Montenegro’s highest state officials regarding to such messages.
Nikolic stated that, 20 years after the restoration of independence, Montenegro is an internationally recognized, civic and European state precisely because its citizens decided on its future, and not political power centers outside of it.
“That is why today, 20 years after the Referendum, it is sad to see President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic unable to accept the historical and democratic fact that Montenegro is not anyone’s “breakaway part”, but a state with a thousand-year-old identity and the right to independently decide its own destiny”, said Nikolic.
He said that he is particularly concerned that the highest state officials – President Jakov Milatovic, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic and Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic – did not respond to such messages.
