Podgorica, (MINA) - Head of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) parliamentary group Andrija Nikolic has resigned from the position of chair of the Inquiry Committee, dealing with attacks on journalists and the activities of the so-called “black troikas”
Speaking at the press conference, Nikolic announced that his party colleague Oskar Hutter will also resign as an Inquiry Committee member in the coming days.
He assessed that the parliamentary majority and the Government are trying to simulate democracy in the parliament.
“We clearly said that we will not participate in the political marketing of the parliamentary majority and the Government, which only declaratively refers to the EU standards, and then votes for legal solutions that override the Constitution and all European conventions on human rights”, said Nikolic.
He stated that the reason behind their decision to join the Inquiry Committee was to prevent the abuse of the institute of parliamentary oversight and enable hearings in that parliamentary body to take place in accordance with parliamentary procedures.
“Meanwhile, what did the Inquiry Committee turn into? We got political fights and an attempt to damage the image of the DPS and its growing rating”, Nikolic claims.
He pointed out that there are institutions of the system if there is a will to get to the full truth in regard to certain tragic events that happened in the nineties, including numerous murders.
“It’s not the DPS that runs the institutions of the system. Six years have passed since we moved to the opposition”, said Nikolic.
When asked by journalists whether the previous resignations of DPS MPs represent some kind of boycott, Nikolic answered in the negative.
“This is not a boycott. And the fact that we left certain leadership positions in committees is a message to the parliamentary majority that the previous institutional communication we had through leadership positions in those committees is no longer valid”, said Nikolić.
He added that he will not yet withdraw from the working bodies of the Parliament of Montenegro yet.
Speaking about the hearing of former President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic at the Committee, which was previously scheduled for Friday, Nikolic said that the reason behind this decision lies in the fact that runaway Milos Medenica spoke in a TV show a day before.
