Nikolic: Opposition to seek EC review of Internal Affairs and ANB Laws

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Montenegrin opposition will address the EU Delegation to Montenegro to request an opinion from the European Commission (EC) regarding amendments to the Law on Internal Affairs and the Law on the National Security Agency (ANB), announced Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) MP Andrija Nikolic.

Speaking at the Parliament’s session in Cetinje, where the draft Resolution on Montenegro’s EU Accession is being discussed, Nikolic called on the EC to urgently inform Parliament whether the laws and amendments that will be discussed on Friday have been agreed with the Commission.

He said that the future of the Electoral Reform Committee would depend on it.

“Today, as heads of opposition parliamentary groups, we will send a letter to the EU Delegation, and the future of the Electoral Reform Committee will depend on the response we expect from the EC”, said Nikolic.

He noted that the ruling majority is abusing the EU integration process.

“You have abused our pledge to support everything related to Montenegro’s EU integration. So far, we have agreed to vote on several dozens of laws without discussion, however, in the future, we will demand a more responsible and transparent approach from both the Government and the Parliament”, said Nikolic.

Nikolic said that a public debate will have to be held to explain to citizens the benefits of legal solutions harmonized with EU legislation.

He added that the formal progress that can be seen is more the result of EU support than of internal reforms.
