MUP: Draft amendments to Law on Residence submitted to parliamentary committee

Podgorica, (MINA) - The working group for the control of the voter registry of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) has submitted the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Temporary and Permanent Residence Registers to the Political System, Judiciary and Administration Parliamentary Committee with an initiative to hold a consultative hearing, the Ministry announced.

MUP State Secretary Novica Obradovic said that the Draft Law has been submitted in order to reach a final solution through dialogue that they will offer to the citizens.

He said that the voter registry, and whether it really includes only those who should be there, has been an issue burdening society for decades.

“In order to address all these dilemmas, we have carried out an extensive analysis in the previous period, which showed that a large number of our citizens have not obtaine their identity cards since 2008 and before, despite the legal deadlines”, stated Obradovic in a press release.

According to him, the analysis established that a large number of deceased citizens were registered in the voter’s registry.

Obradovic pointed out that all citizens are important to Montenegro and that the state will not give up any of them.

As he emphasized, all Montenegrin citizens living abroad who wish to return to Montenegro can very easily register their residence and, in accordance with the laws, exercise all their rights, including the right to be registered in the voter’s registry.
