Podgorica, (MINA) – The Municipality of Zeta has called on the Center for Ecotoxicological Research (CETI) to immediately conduct a detailed assessment in Botun, claiming that the contractors at the construction site of the wastewater treatment facility are excavating potentially hazardous materials.

The Zeta Municipality stated that it suspects that the site was contaminated during the period when the Aluminum Plant Podgorica was operational and that the claims that the remains of carcinogenic anode residues and other materials hazardous to humans and the environment were confirmed after the construction machinery began digging up harmful materials.

“The Zeta Municipality insists that the construction site be immediately closed until all necessary analyzes are completed and procurement of all clear and unambiguous findings from competent inspections are obtained”, they stated in a press release.  

They further requested the inspection authorities to without delay visit the site, establish the factual situation and prevent possible further harmful consequences.
