Muleskovic: The economy has shown that restoring independence was the right choice

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to economic analyst Mirza Muleskovic, Montenegro has a dynamic and stable economy twenty years after restoring independence.

He believes that NATO membership, progress in the European integration process and the use of the euro have further contributed to macroeconomic stability and investor confidence.

“If the question were asked whether restoring our independence 20 years ago was the right decision, the economy has shown that it was the only correct choice,” Muleskovic said in an interview with Mina-business.

He stated that, 20 years after restoring independence, Montenegro now has an incomparably stronger and more developed economic position than during the state union with Serbia.

“This cannot be viewed only through the nominal growth of economic indicators, but above all through the deep transformation of the economic model, the country’s international position and the level of integration into European and global trends,” Muleskovic said.

He recalled that at the beginning of the 2000s, Montenegro’s economy was burdened by the consequences of regional instability, low investment, weak infrastructure and limited development capacities.

“Today, the situation is fundamentally different. Tourism has become one of Montenegro’s most important economic sectors, and Montenegro has become one of the most attractive countries. Infrastructure has been significantly modernized, although there is still considerable room for further development,” Muleskovic said.

According to him, it is important to emphasize that the banking sector has stabilized and is now among the safest and most developed sectors in Montenegro.

“From a small, underdeveloped country, Montenegro has developed a highly resilient economy that has overcome all external shocks and recorded negative figures only three times in 20 years. The number of business entities is growing, demonstrating sustainability, which clearly shows that Montenegro is indeed a small, dynamic and stable economy,” Muleskovic stated.
