Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – MP Boris Mugosa of the European Alliance and chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget, has called on the Government to apply legal mechanisms to protect citizens’ living standards in response to evident disruptions in the global market for petroleum products.
The European Alliance said in a press release that, in order to respond in case of price disruptions on the global market and protect citizens’ living standards, MPs os the Social Democrats (SD), now part of the European Alliance, proposed an amendment to the Law on Excise Duties in mid-2022.
The amendment was adopted and allows the Government, in the event of a significant increase in mineral oil prices on the global market, to decide on reducing fuel excise duties by up to 50 percent.
This made it possible to mitigate potential increases in fuel prices.
The European Alliance noted that the Government used this mechanism a few years ago.
Mugosa explained that this legal measure is very important, since it is clear that rising fuel prices as an input lead to higher prices for numerous products and services.
