Mugosa: Additional measures necessary

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – In addition to reducing excise duties, the Government should also take other measures if negative trends in the global market continue, said Boris Mugosa, an MP of the European Alliance, adding that this could potentially include VAT adjustments and subsidies for farmers.

“This could potentially refer to VAT and subsidies for farmers, and we should also look at the measures being taken by EU countries. Finally, the message that the state is giving up revenue is not appropriate, because this is not the budget of the Government and ministers, but of citizens and businesses,” Mugosa posted on X.

He added that, beyond the Government’s inconsistency in announcing different fuel prices within a few days, the more important issue is that starting tomorrow the price of diesel will be 23 cents higher than it was 15 days ago, when it stood at €1.34.

“That is a 17 percent increase in just half a month,” Mugosa said.

He also warned that, in this case, public revenues from excise duties or VAT represent direct expenditures for citizens, who will spend whatever they save on fuel on other goods and services.

“Of course, care must be taken to maintain the stability of public finances, but they are not burdened by citizens, but by inadequate government policy, which increases certain non-productive expenditure items in the budget year after year,” Mugosa concluded.
