More than 100 ski days

More than 100 ski days

Kolasin, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The ski season at the Kolasin 1450 ski resort officially closed on Sunday after more than 100 ski days, once again confirming the great potential of Bjelasica as one of Montenegro’s key winter destinations.

PR and marketing advisor of the Kolasin 1450 ski resort, Dragana Becirovic, said that although the season is ending, there is still snow on the mountain peaks, especially in locations such as Kljuc, where, with adequate infrastructure, skiing could continue even into May.

“However, the lack of artificial snowmaking systems at lower elevations currently prevents the extension of ski resort operations,” Becirovic said.

According to her, this challenge is part of a broader infrastructure issue affecting the development of winter tourism on Bjelasica.

“The lack of water supply, utility infrastructure, and artificial snowmaking systems is a key obstacle to the stable functioning of ski resorts and extending the winter season to the standard 100 to 120 days,” she added.

She said that the same problems are reflected in tourism infrastructure, adding that four hotels on Mount Bjelasica, although completed, are still not operational due to the lack of basic infrastructure, including water, sewage, and access roads.

Despite this, Bjelasica’s natural potential remains undeniable. The quality of snow, terrain configuration, and climate conditions confirm that the mountain has the capacity to develop into a stable and competitive ski destination, provided there is adequate investment in infrastructure to ensure a more reliable and longer winter season.
