More precise interpretation of the Consumer Protection Law needed

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a roundtable held at the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) that additional clarifications and guidelines for the implementation of the Consumer Protection Law are necessary in order to avoid differing interpretations in practice and ensure consistent protection of consumer rights.

Secretary of the Trade Association Committee at PKCG Milica Lazarevic said that the new legal provisions raise numerous practical questions for companies, making it important to ensure open dialogue between businesses and institutions.

“The purpose of this event is not only to interpret legal provisions, but also to pave the way for a partnership between institutions and the business sector, so that the law is applied in a way that simultaneously protects consumer rights while also enabling a predictable and sustainable business environment,” Lazarevic said at the event.

According to a press release from PKCG, the event brought together representatives of businesses, relevant institutions, and professionals with the aim of discussing uncertainties regarding the implementation of certain legal provisions through open dialogue and contributing to their clearer and more uniform interpretation.

Director General of the Directorate for Internal Market and Competition at the Ministry of Economic Development Jasna Vujovic said she was very pleased with the strong turnout of business representatives at the roundtable, adding that such interest confirms consumer protection is becoming one of the key topics in Montenegro’s European integration process.

She recalled that the new Consumer Protection Law, along with several other important regulations introducing new obligations for traders and business entities, had recently been adopted.
