Montenegro’s EU progress rests on rule of law and legal certainty

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro’s progress in the EU integration process rests on the rule of law and legal certainty as key prerequisites for further economic and social development, it was said at the closing of the Adria Future Summit, held in Tivat over past three days.

According to the press release from the Ministry of Justice, Supreme Court President Valentina Pavlicic and Justice Minister Bojan Bozovic sent a message of unity in applying the best practices that lead to full EU membership.

Pavlicic pointed out that the European integration process was not only political and economic, but above all a legal and value-based process in which institutions and public trust are simultaneously built.

Bozovic said that criminal and legal reform is the challenge of the current moment, stating that he is confident that the pace of change will ensure Montenegro’s full EU membership by 2028.

“We must be aware that the quality of reforms also depends on their implementation. And in order for a measure to achieve its goal, everything we do must have its origin in the direct interest of citizens and the economy”, Bozovic said.

Panel moderator, lawyer and legal adviser at Sustineri partners Vanja Radevic assessed that it is not only a matter of the moment when European integration is again high on the agenda, but a moment when the process is under greater pressure of concrete results than before.

Montenegro’s EU Chief Negotiator Predrag Zenovic said that by beginning preparations for the Accession Treaty, Montenegro is not only defining its place within the EU of 28 member states, but also contributing to a broader vision of a more united, resilient and advanced Europe.

Advisor to the Prime Minister Jovana Bojovic said that without public support, reform processes cannot succeed.

She pointed to the high level of public support for European integration and pointed out that it must serve as a potential that will be used to, in the continuation of the process, transfer Euro-optimism to the entire region and all other non-member countries.
