Montenegro strengthens position as regional energy hub

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a meeting today between Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Sahmanovic and a delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) that Montenegro has a stable regulatory framework, strong investment potential and growing interest from international partners in renewable energy projects.

 

Sahmanovic met with a high-level EBRD delegation currently on a working visit to Montenegro, to discuss further development of the energy sector, new investment projects and strengthening cooperation in renewable energy.

 

According to a press release from the Ministry, Sahmanovic said Montenegro highly values its long-standing partnership with the EBRD, which in recent years has resulted in concrete projects and strong support for the development of the country’s energy sector.

 

He particularly highlighted the successful launch of the auction model for solar energy projects.

 

The EBRD delegation was led by Vice President for Policy and Partnerships Mark Bowman and included Managing Director for Sustainable Infrastructure Harry Boyd-Carpenter, Managing Director for Strategy and Policy Melis Ekmen Tabojer, Regional Director for the Western Balkans Matteo Colangeli, EBRD Head of Montenegro Remon Zakaria, Regional Head of Energy Francesco Corbo and Regional Head of Policy Milena Popovic Martinelli.
