Montenegro remains committed to promoting and protecting intellectual property rights

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the Ministry of Economic Development, Montenegro remains committed to promoting and protecting intellectual property rights.

The Ministry noted that World Intellectual Property Day is being observed today, and that intellectual property, thanks to numerous international agreements, both historical and modern, has become a global phenomenon with worldwide impact.

“The history of intellectual property in Montenegro is notable and long, especially considering that Montenegro acceded to the renowned Paris and Berne Conventions as early as the late 19th century, and that 31 international agreements in this field are currently in force,” the Ministry said in a press release.

The Ministry added that intellectual property law in Montenegro is now fully aligned with European Union (EU) legislation.

“The results we are achieving, in cooperation with other institutions, give us reason to believe that the intellectual property rights protection system in Montenegro is built on sustainable foundations,” the press release reads.

The commitment of institutions to the development and further improvement of the intellectual property rights protection system in Montenegro has also been clearly recognized by the European Commission (EC), as Chapter 7 – Intellectual Property Law was provisionally closed in December 2024.

This year, World Intellectual Property Day is dedicated to intellectual property in the field of sport, as sport more than just competition.

“It is an industry that is constantly evolving, creating numerous opportunities for people, and it is important to understand how to protect, manage, and develop the many resources within the domain of rights that are now part of sport,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry concluded Montenegro remains committed to promoting and protecting intellectual property rights.
