Montenegro reaffirms commitment to a more competitive and resilient economy

Budva, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj said that Montenegro is in a phase of intensifying economic reforms and accelerating European integration, with the quality of policies aimed at enterprise development representing one of the key indicators of readiness for the next stage of EU accession.

 

Speaking in Budva today, he opened the regional presentation of the OECD publication “SME Policy Index: Western Balkans and Türkiye 2026,” one of the most significant international reports assessing support policies for small and medium-sized enterprises in the region.

 

The event brought together representatives of the OECD, the EU, international institutions, the diplomatic corps, as well as representatives of institutions and businesses from the Western Balkans countries and Turkiye.

 

“Hosting this event in Montenegro confirms regional cooperation and the continuous reform activities the country is carrying out in order to improve the business environment and strengthen the competitiveness of the economy,” the Ministry said in a press release.

 

Particular focus was placed on digital transformation, the green transition, and strengthening economic resilience.

 

In that context, activities Montenegro is undertaking to improve the regulatory framework, digitalize public administration, develop electronic services, and invest in broadband infrastructure and digital skills development were presented.
