Montenegro moves to advance energy cooperation with France’s EDF

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Sahmanovic and representatives of the French national energy company EDF concluded that the intergovernmental agreement between Montenegro and France forms a strong foundation for closer cooperation in the field of energy.
They agreed that there is significant potential to enhance cooperation between the national energy companies of the two countries, and that now is the right time to define the next steps and concrete partnership models.
The Ministry stated that representatives of the French company expressed strong support for Montenegro’s efforts to accelerate the energy transition, while the development and construction of the Krusevo hydropower plant was identified as the most attractive project for cooperation.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Energy and Mining, the focus in the coming period will be on preparing key project documentation, primarily the feasibility study.
Sahmanovic recalled that geological research has already begun at the potential site and highlighted the importance of timely defining cooperation and financing models.
He said that the intergovernmental agreement with France is an excellent starting point, but now is the right moment to elevate cooperation to a higher, operational level.
