Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – On Friday evening, Parliament adopted the Law ratifying the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Energy between the Governments of Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates.
A total of 60 MPs voted, with 43 in favour, three against, and 14 abstaining.
Government representatives stated during the parliamentary debate on February 19 that the energy cooperation agreement with the United Arab Emirates opens the possibility for Montenegro to become an energy-stable platform for new industries.
Meanwhile, members of the opposition raised concerns that the contract does not provide sufficient protection for the state.
Parliament also adopted amendments to the Law on Postal Services, the Law on the Global Minimum Corporate Income Tax, and the Law ratifying amendments to the Sectoral Agreement between the Government of Montenegro and the European Commission, which sets out rules for managing and implementing EU financial assistance to Montenegro under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance for Agriculture and Rural Development Policy (IPARD III).
Members of Parliament also adopted amendments to the Law on Real Estate Transfer Tax, as well as amendments to the Law on Exercising the Right to Financial Support for Persons Previously Employed in the Wood Processing and Forestry Industry.
