Montenegro and Albania share responsibility for preserving European perspective of the region

Podgorica, (MINA) – Apart from geographical space, Montenegro and Albania share a shared responsibility for preserving stability and the European perspective of the region, it was heard during the meeting between Montenegrin Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimovic and Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha.
According to the press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Ibrahimovic is paying an official visit to Albania, during which, apart to Hoxha, he also met with Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Albania Klodiana Spahiu, as well as members of the parliamentary Montenegro and Albania friendship group.
During the meeting with Hoxha, the two officials discussed the improvement of bilateral cooperation, current regional and international matters, the European perspective of the Western Balkans, as well as further improvement of the partnership within the NATO.
“The interlocutors concluded that Montenegro and Albania today share not only a geographical area, but also the responsibility for preserving stability, security and the European perspective of the region”, the press release said.
The press release adds that it was especially emphasized that both countries are fully aligned with the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, which, as stated, is a confirmation of their clear strategic orientation and commitment to common European values.
“The need for continuous political dialogue, contacts intensification and joint work on issues of interest to the citizens of both countries, was particularly emphasized”, the press release said.
It is stated that strong support for the European perspective of the region was reaffirmed, with the assessment that Montenegro and Albania, as countries that are actively carrying out their EU accession negotiations, have a special responsibility to be a successful example of responsible regional cooperation.
