Podgorica, Belgrade, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Sahmanovic, Montenegro today demonstrates that it can serve as an example to the region when it comes to implementing reforms in the energy sector.
“We have made significant efforts to align national legislation with EU regulations and are very optimistic about closing Chapter 15 – Energy soon. This confirms that Montenegro is building a modern, stable, and European energy system,” Sahmanovic said.
He participated in the Belgrade Energy Forum, one of the most significant regional events dedicated to energy, the energy transition, and the future of the energy sector in Southeast Europe.
The forum was opened by Energy Community Director Artur Lorkowski and Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, who stressed in their opening remarks the importance of regional cooperation, energy security, and accelerating the green transition process.
Speaking on a panel about Montenegro’s European path in the field of energy, Sahmanovic said the country had achieved significant progress in aligning legislation with the European Union (EU) acquis, particularly in the areas related to energy and climate policy.
He said that the region’s energy transition is no longer a matter of the future, but an ongoing process that requires major investments, regional cooperation, and a clear strategic vision.
