Montenegro advocates free passage through the Strait of Hormuz and easing of tensions

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – In cooperation with international partners, Montenegro remains ready to contribute to reducing tensions and restoring uninterrupted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, while consistently advocating for freedom of navigation and full respect for international law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimovic, participated in an online meeting of foreign ministers, at the invitation of the UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, regarding the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The meeting brought together representatives from more than 40 countries, as well as key international partners, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Union (EU).

“During the discussion, the serious consequences of the current disruptions to transport in the Strait of Hormuz were considered, while its crucial importance for global trade, energy security, and supply chains was highlighted,” the Ministry said.

It was concluded that Iran’s actions, which have resulted in restricting transit through the strait, constitute a serious violation of the principle of freedom of navigation and a direct threat to the stability of the global economy.
