Monstat: Inflation rate at 2.9 percent in January

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) - Compared with last year’s corresponding period, the prices of products and services for personal consumption, measured by the consumer price index (CPI), were 2.9 percent higher on average in January.
According to Monstat, the consumer prices saw an average increase of 0.1 percent compared with December.
“The negative inflation rate at the monthly level was affected primarily by an increase in prices of tobacco, solid fuels, meat and meat products, fruit and nuts, bundled telecommunications services, household maintenance products, maintenance, repair and security services for dwellings, milk, other dairy products and eggs,” Mostat said in a press release.
Compared with 2024, last year’s consumer prices were 3.9 percent higher on average.
Across the main groups, the monthly increase in prices was recorded for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, insurance and financial services, furnishings and routine maintenance of the house, information and communications, food and non-alcoholic beverages, healthcare, and restaurants and hotels.
In this period, the prices decreased in the category of clothing and footwear, transport, recreation, sports and culture.
Prices of other products and services have not changed considerably.
