Monstat: Cattle and sheep numbers decline

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to preliminary data from Monstat, the livestock population, specifically cattle, sheep, and goats, increased at the beginning of last December compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
“The total number of cattle stands at 68,480, which is an increase of 1.5 percent compared to the last year. The total number of dairy cows increased by 2.1 percent,” the Statistical Office stated in a press release.
Compared to last year, the total number of sheep rose by 8.2 percent. The number of goats remained at the same level as in 2024.
“The total number of pigs increased by 13.4 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 33,180,” Monstat said.
The total poultry population grew by 14.2 percent last year.
“Laying hens accounted for the largest share, with a total of 1.03 million, up 1.3 percent year on year,” the press release concluded.Top of Form
