MoD: No information that Montenegro considers ceding military capacities to the US

Podgorica, (MINA) - The Ministry of Defense (MOD) has no information that Montenegro is considering ceding its military capacities and providing logistical support to the United States of America (USA) for the war against Iran.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said earlier on Monday that NATO member states, such as Montenegro, Croatia, Romania, Portugal, Greece, Italy, UK, France and Germany, are implementing requests for the use of bases and other logistical support to the US.

The Ministry told Vijesti daily that the eventual adoption of such a decision would be outside its jurisdiction and would require agreement at the highest state level.

“We emphasize that Montenegro sees the US as an important strategic partner and NATO ally, with which it develops substantive and mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in the field of defense, in line with its own national interests and priorities”, said the MOD.

They added that such cooperation is based on the principles of mutual respect, alliance and responsible contribution to collective security.

“This is evidenced, among other things, by the recently agreed Technical Agreement between the Ministry of Defense and the U.S. Army Europe and Africa Command (USAEUR-AF), which refers to the provision of support to the host country, but exclusively in the context of military training and exercises”, the Ministry stated.

They emphasized that since the beginning of the conflict between Iran on one side and the USA and Israel on the other, the MoD has been continuously monitoring and analyzing developments in the conflict zone, with attention to potential implications for national and collective security.
