Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Management Board of the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro will consider tomorrow the annual report for the past year, during which planned activities were exceeded by 49 percent.
“This resulted in multi-million-euro savings for municipal budgets through legislative amendments, as well as more than €20 million in support provided by the Union through EU and other projects and its own funds,” the Union of Municipalities said in a press release.
The report, submitted by Secretary General Misela Manojlovic, notes that instead of the planned 108 activities, as many as 161 were implemented, and that the previous year is seen as the beginning of decentralization and a period of record support for municipalities.
As many as 80 laws, strategies, and plans were adopted at the state level with the participation of the Union. In 38 draft laws and bills, the Union’s suggestions were fully or partially accepted, while amendments submitted to members of parliament for five laws were mostly adopted.
“The financial effects of the Union’s normative activities are reflected in the development of a legal framework for multi-million-euro savings and revenues in municipal budgets, while efforts are also under way to secure a new local revenue source: charges for state roads passing through populated areas,” the press release reads.
