Podgorica, (MINA) - A strong partnership, intensive political dialogue and economic cooperation remain the foundation for further development of ties between Montenegro and the United States (USA), Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic and newly appointed U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Michael Keays agreed.

According to the press release from the President’s office, Milatovic hosted a working lunch for Keays on the occasion of his assumption of office.

“The President emphasized that the USA is a strategic partner and a reliable ally, and expressed his appreciation for the support the USA provides to the reform processes and democratic development of our country”, the press release added.

Milatovic’s office stated that special attention during the meeting was devoted to improving economic cooperation and continuing the Economic Dialogue initiated in 2021.

“Our country remains committed to fulfilling its NATO obligations, including increasing defense allocations and investing in the protection of critical infrastructure”, the President’s office said.

The press release states that during the talks, the strong support of the USA for reforms in the field of rule of law, strengthening institutions and the fight against organized crime and corruption was highlighted.

“Speaking of the situation in the Middle East, support was expressed for U.S. efforts aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear potential”, the press release said.
