Milatovic: Montenegro ready for final stretch on EU path, decisive months ahead

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro is ready for the final stretch of its EU path with decisive months ahead, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic said in his address to the Bundestag.

According to the press release from his office, Milatovic’s address to the Bundestag comes at one of the key moments for the country’s European integration, at the stage when the accession process moves from the technical to the political.

Milatovic emphasized that Montenegro is the most advanced candidate country, as confirmed by concrete and measurable results, with all negotiation chapters opened and 14 closed.

As he added, Montenegro today represents a credible and reliable partner, which further confirms full alignment with the EU common foreign and security policy.

Milatovic emphasized that the final phase of the negotiations requires strong political support from the member states, and called for the additional involvement from Germany and other partners in order to open up space for the next concrete step, the drafting of the accession treaty.

After his address, Milatovic said that his visit to Berlin is part of intensive diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening political support for Montenegro’s European path.

Milatovic pointed to the strong interest by German parliamentarians in the country’s progress in the accession process.

He expressed confidence that Germany’s stronger support will further mobilize the support from other member states.
