Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic met on Tuesday in Tokyo with Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and invited him to visit Montenegro.

According to the press release from the President’s office, Milatovic and his wife Milena, who are paying an official visit to Japan, were welcomed by Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Imperial Palace, after which a bilateral meeting was held.

Milatovic’s office stated that the meeting was a historic event and an exceptional honor for Montenegro, since it was the first bilateral meeting between a Montenegrin official and the Japanese emperor.

“During the meeting, Milatovic invited Emperor Naruhito to visit Montenegro, bearing in mind that his father, then Crown Prince Akihito, visited Montenegro 50 years ago, as part of his tour of the former Yugoslavia”, the press release said.
