Podgorica, (MINA) - President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic called on the Government to, together with relevant stakeholders, find an adequate solution regarding the draft amendments to the Law on Internal Affairs and the Law on the National Security Agency (ANB), stressing that European integration should not be used as an excuse for poor legal norms.
He reminded that the European Commission (EC) assessed that the proposed amendments are not fully aligned with the EU legal acquis, especially in the area of data protection.
Speaking at the press conference, Milatovic said that citizens were partially misled by claims that the proposed solutions were fully in line with European standards.
“EU integration must not be a simulation or an instrument for political justification of poor legal solutions. I understand that the goal is the fight against organized crime and corruption, however, the goal must not justify the means”, said Milatovic.
According to him, the proposed solutions are wrong.
He called on the Government to find an adequate solution in cooperation with the relevant actors.
“I call on the Government to, in communication with the NGO sector, the EC and other interested parties, find the right balance in the amended legal provisions and in this way demonstrate our democratic maturity as a society”, said Milatovic.
