Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, called on the Government today to refocus on a new development model for the Montenegrin economy, saying that the current one is not delivering results.

“The focus should return to the economy,” Milatovic told reporters after the Anti-Corruption Forum organized by BIRN.

He said that citizens are dissatisfied with the economic situation, which is partly the result of global developments, but also of inadequate economic policy.

“I’m not even sure that there is any economic policy being pursued. That is why today I called for greater focus on economic policy and for clarity on the plan for the upcoming tourist season,” Milatovic said.

He added that the opening of a base in Podgorica by Wizz Air should be welcomed, noting that much of the credit goes to former Minister of Transport Maja Vukicevic.

“We need to get serious. We cannot expect people to come to Montenegro only because of our natural beauty. We must also do something to attract tourists. We need to complete infrastructure and have a clear strategy for the tourist season, as well as in relation to global developments,” Milatovic said.
