Milatovic and Costa invite leaders to EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat

 

Podgorica, (MINA) - President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic and President of the European Council Antonio Costa have sent a joint letter inviting the leaders of the EU member states and the countries of the Western Balkans to participate in the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which will be held on June 5 in Tivat.

According to the press release from Milatovic’s office, the invitation was addressed to the leaders of EU member states and countries of the region, calling them to participate in this important meeting, which will bring together European leaders at a time when the EU enlargement policy is once again high on the EU agenda.

“The central theme of the Summit will be “Joint prosperity and stability of the European Union and the Western Balkans”, clearly reflecting renewed political momentum and the fact that the enlargement policy is alive, dynamic and strategically important for the future of the European continent”, the press release states.

The official program of the Summit begins on June 5 and includes two key sessions – a plenary meeting and a working lunch.

Milatovic’s office stated that the plenary session will focus on progress in the convergence and integration of the Western Balkans into the EU and the Growth Plan, while strengthening regional stability, connectivity and resilience, while the working lunch will focus on enlargement policy, key challenges and opportunities, as well as alignment with European policies and standards, reaffirming that enlargement remains one of the EU’s key strategic priorities.

It was also announced that, in the context of marking the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Montenegro’s independence, leaders have been invited to attend a dinner on June 4, which will symbolically mark the jubilee in the spirit of European partnership and shared values.
