Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Tenants’ Association said it will not allow the Velje Brdo project to be implemented in any way that departs from the best interest of citizens, warning of the risk of political and commercial manipulation.
The Association stated in a press release it demands all apartments within the project remain state-owned or owned by the National Housing Fund and be allocated through social rental or rent-to-own models, rather than through direct sales to private individuals.
“The goal is to ensure that genuine tenants in real need of housing are not deprived due to profit interests or political decisions,” the press release said.
The Association added that selling apartments enables quick profit and political flexibility, while the social model requires long-term investment and active management of the housing fund.
“The National Housing Fund is not yet fully operational, and investors and political interests favour commercial and mixed models,” the Association stated.
They warned that the current direction of the project conflicts with the Social Housing Strategy 2024–2034 and that tenants must be protected through the active role of the Association.
