Mandic: Parliament to remain in near constant session until the end of the year

Podgorica, (MINA) - The Parliament will remain in almost constant session until the end of the year in order to meet the remaining obligations on Montenegro’s EU path without delay, said Speaker of the Parliament Andrija Mandic during a meeting with the delegation of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET), led by its chair David McAllister.

According to the press release from the Parliament, Mandic noted that Montenegro has a real opportunity to become a success story of the EU enlargement policy and a source of encouragement for the region.

He pointed out that Montenegro shares the vision of becoming the 28th member of the EU by 2028, and that the goal is to complete accession negotiations by the end of 2026.

“During this Parliament’s session, almost 400 laws were adopted, around 170 of which are aligned with European legislation, and the Parliament will remain in almost constant session until the end of the year in order to meet the remaining obligations without delay”, said Mandic.

He emphasized that the swift adoption of laws comes after a detailed process of their alignment with European legislation and reviewing at sessions of parliamentary working bodies, ensuring transparency and inclusiveness of the legislative process.

“As the biggest challenge, I would single out the fight against organized crime and the need to further strengthen the independence and responsibility of the judiciary. Chapters 23 and 24 are the key test of progress and a requirement for high quality of life for citizens”, said Mandic.

The Parliament stated that the members of the European Parliament welcomed Montenegro’s progress on the European path, stressing that progress is visible, but that the final stages of negotiations are the most demanding.
