Podgorica, (MINA) – In the continuation of negotiations with the EU, Montenegro need to prioritize chapters on democracy, said EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos.

She highlighted that the EU accession process isn’t just about ticking boxes, but about building democratic institutions which can withstand the demands of life as an EU member state.

“I spoke with President Jakov Milatovic about the need for Montenegro to now prioritize the fundamentals – the essential chapters on democracy”, Kos wrote on the X social network following the meeting in Brussels.

According to her, progress in these chapters is a fundamental requirement for membership.

“Without them, no country can join the EU”, said Kos.
