Podogorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Vladimir Jokovic will appear before the parliamentary Committee on Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology and Spatial Planning at the request of MPs from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), over the state of agriculture and problems in the dairy sector.

The initiative states that Montenegro’s agricultural sector is facing serious challenges that threaten the sustainability of domestic production, the competitiveness of agricultural holdings and the country’s food security.

It particularly highlights problems in the dairy sector, noting that domestic milk producers are increasingly facing suspensions in milk purchases, while imports of dairy products continue to rise.

“Dairy owners clearly do not have sufficient capacity for processing and storing milk during seasonal production peaks, while the declining number of milk producers poses an additional problem,” the explanation of the initiative said.

DPS MPs believe that the accumulated problems require a detailed review of the responsibility of the relevant institutions, as well as concrete support measures for agricultural producers.

According to them, it is necessary to create conditions for the sustainable and competitive development of agriculture in Montenegro.
