Institute: Consumers should be more decisive in exercising their rights

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – On the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day, the Institute of Economic Sciences called on citizens to exercise their consumer rights more decisively, and on authorities not to treat consumer protection as a mere formality.

“We urge citizens not to buy blindly, to request clear information, keep receipts, and report suspicious, damaged, or potentially dangerous products,” the Institute stated in a press release, adding that a consumer who remains silent only prolongs the problem.

They also called on the authorities not to treat consumer protection as a formality, adding that supervision must be stronger, more transparent and consistent, warnings more visible, reactions faster, and responsibility clearer.

“We also appeal to retailers, importers, distributors, and online sellers not to shift responsibility for product safety onto consumers. Citizens should not have to guess whether a product is safe; this must be ensured before the product enters the market,” the Institute said.

They added that consumer protection is not a luxury but a test of the seriousness of a state.
