Increased consumption the main reason for higher electricity bills

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Elektroprivreda (EPCG), the price of active electricity remained at the same level, and the main reason for higher electricity bills in January is increased consumption.
“The increase that occurred is negligible compared to the rise in consumption. Electricity consumption in January was more than 36.67 percent higher than the average monthly consumption during last year, which is the main reason for higher bills received by some consumers,” the company said in a press release, referring to what it described as inaccurate and tendentious claims regarding January electricity bills.
EPCG added that the change in the total bill was also the result of a 2.85 percent increase in regulated network services of the Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System (CGES), determined by the energy regulatory authority.
“The change in the total bill is also the result of the discontinuation of the depreciation discount on part of the network component of the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS), amounting to 4.15 percent, which EPCG had previously absorbed in order to mitigate the impact of regulatory decisions on citizens,” EPCG said in a press release.
According to the press release, EPCG will continue to pursue a responsible policy towards citizens and the economy, while maintaining system stability and continuing investments.
