Improving the regulatory framework in the field of competition

Improving the regulatory framework in the field of competition

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Bill on the Protection of Competition, discussed by Parliament today, is expected to further improve the regulatory framework, strengthen transparency, and align Montenegro with modern standards in this field.

Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj said that the new law is fully aligned with the EU acquis, confirming Montenegro’s commitment to its European path and to fulfilling obligations in the negotiation process, particularly under Chapter 8, which relates to competition policy.

According to him, alignment with European standards is not merely a formal obligation, but a fundamental mechanism for ensuring fair market competition, protecting consumers, and encouraging investment.

“The proposed solution brings significant improvements compared to the existing framework, especially in strengthening the institutional capacities and powers of the Agency for the Protection of Competition,” Gjeloshaj explained.

According to him, the goal was clear: to provide the Agency with a stronger, more efficient, and operationally independent role in implementing competition policy.
